Just got forwarded over the USSA End of Season Summary at their Congress in Park city, by a college in the States:
Isn't this something we should be looking to learn from? If you look at what other small Nations with limited funding are doing - Croatians, Slovenians and Dutch - they're all heading towards this structure, supporting all the Teams from the ground up and looking to build pathways for the younger athletes...
Doesn't matter if you're a member of staff or an athlete - if you want to be successful then you've got to keep on working!
While the Team Evolution staff have been getting back into the "boring" part of ski racing - writing programmes, reports, answering emails, planning camps and paying bills - the Team Evolution athletes have continued on their fine vein of competitive form and are hitting it hard in both training and competitions.
Daisi followed up on her last set of victories in MK by heading over to Hemel and comfortably taking home the 1st place at the Satips race, not only winning the under 12's but setting the fastest time of the day. With Daisi this summer we're trying to revolve her skiing around "racing for training" purposes, heading to any races with the idea of concentrating on skiing in the right manner, rather than aiming purely for speed. This is going to be the plan for the majority of the summer for the younger guys, focusing on spending time on the glaciers getting in runs of high intensity focusing on minimising mistakes.
In the meantime, the guys who are off snow are working hard on their cross training. A focus for all the athletes is to maximise their off snow training opportunities, both through their own Team Evolution fitness programmes and through a mixture of their home sports. For Honi Clissold part of this cross training involves a huge amount of horse riding, and this weekend she headed down to Windsor and put in an awesome days riding as part of The Windsor Horse Show.
All of the guys, from little Ollie Willoughby through to Max Baggio and from Daisi up to Darcie are now back into their gym & sports sessions, and each day that we speak to them there is more good news about personal bests or new achievements. It really feels great to know that while we're here in front of spreadsheets and equipment orders they're out there doing what is asked of them to prepare best for the 2013 season.
Now all we have to do is keep them on this right track and keep them motivated to carry on working this hard! Going to be meeting up with everyone again this weekend in Manchester for a bit of a ski and get together, can't wait!
It was an awesome few days out in Hintertux, with the Childrens Team athletes and coaches training alongside a load of the other cubs and teams, including a couple of our Team Evolution Childrens Team athletes. We got in a really good mix between training on our own specific areas and then alongside other athletes when we felt it would benefit our guys, and so the athletes got the best of both from the camp. The atmosphere was awesome and really showed how well stuff can work out when Teams & Clubs can work together.
Hopefully BSS can run a couple more events like this across the season, and with a bit more support from other athletes and earlier organisation there could be some really good positives to come out of them!
Looking forwards to getting back out to Tux already!
Great day for Team Evolution athletes at the races today!
James & Jimmy headed up to Manchester with the Surbiton Team including Team Evolution athlete Darcie Mead, where the schools Team took 1st Place and Darcie picked up 3rd Overall - not bad considering she hasn't been back on the artificial slopes since the season ended!
While the guys were up there Paul & Sega finished their road trip back from Austria by rocking up at the MK Club National to meet with a few new parents and catch up with a few of the Team Evolution athletes taking part there.
Josh P-L, Toby Case and Daisi Daniels all looked great back on the snow slopes, with the improvements from the winters training evident, especially in Daisi who took 1st place in the Under 12's in both the Slalom & the GS.
Daisi is racing again tomorrow at Hemel so we'll be up there to support her, and then all the Team will be heading up to Manchester next weekend to get in a bit of "fun" competitive racing and have a bit of a Team Evolution party to celebrate the end of the season and the start of next year! Can't wait!
